Current Show
The current show at The Da Silva Gallery is a perfect antidote to the discomfort of hot,
humid days. These abstract and minimalist works provide a soothing thematic blend of
international artists that cools the soul with understated imagery and a Zen-like palette.
One piece in particular, an acrylic on canvas by New England native Peter Kuttner,
immediately captures the imagination. "Sail" is a large piece in both scale and scope.
Filled with subtle blues and greens and dotted by small sailboats it is the very essence of
the sea. It is a calming canvas that invites quiet contemplation.
Six engravings by French artist Jacques Clauzel are reflective of his experience
producing photo documentaries in Africa. Each piece, many with black lines forming
squares on a bed of sepia bring to mind the native textures and fabrics of that region.
Although they are engravings, one is tempted to touch the surface. It is a masterful
handling of the medium.
Aquatints by artist Zu Hao are light, elegant and enigmatic. Reminiscent of work by
Motherwell, his deep black imagery is both modern and clearly Asian. The forms are
organic and mysterious and yet very satisfying.
Clean, playful imagery is found in the work of Tony Soulie whose prints superimposed
over photography are not only pleasing to the eye but they draw the viewer in to take a
closer look at detail. Artist David Kincaid's subtle, linear planes of color have the feel of
a talisman; those stripes and tones seem to be there for a reason.
